Madlen Thorwarth studied interior design. Together with designer Daniel Singh, she founded her manufactory in Frankfurt for high-quality furniture, fancy home accessories, unique jewellery as well as individual commissioned works made of concrete.
Everything in the Siegerstraße workshop in the sustainable industrial park Frankfurt Ost is made by hand with passion, in the highest quality and with lots of love. As a designer, she attaches great importance to detail and is constantly coming up with new product ideas. With her innovative design, concrete has become a socially acceptable material. Her creativity has already been rewarded several times. In 2019, the exceptional concrete jewelry was awarded the internationally renowned German Design Award and the “Oscar of the jewelry industry” – Inhorgenta Award.
For me Frankfurt is …
…my concrete jungle.
What do you love most about your job?
I am my boss and can work creatively. What more does a woman want?
Where do you get your ideas from?
Very different. Sometimes old buildings inspire me to create pieces of jewellery, sometimes the colours of food inspire me to create combinations and sometimes everyday things inspire me to create shapes. But I also often take Pinterest and the magazine AD as sources of inspiration
My lunch break …
… I spend with my wonderful team with good, healthy & home-cooked food and mostly with lots of laughter. 😊
What trends do you think we will see this year?
In general: there is more emphasis on authenticity, sustainability and the environment. I think that’s great! In the jewellery sector, the trend is moving towards old coins, wider necklaces, creoles, natural pearls and gold. In the interior sector, terrazzo is taking the lead and knocking marble off the throne. And (what particularly excites me): jungle animals! #wildlife
What else can we still learn?
Listening more to our gut feeling, loving ourselves & helping others. Then the world would be a much more beautiful and harmonious place.
You should definitely do that in Frankfurt …
At any time of the year: Go to the Ignatz Bubis Bridge at sunset and look at the skyline!
In spring: Visit the Palmengarten!
In summer: Enjoy life in one of the quieter beach clubs e.g. Niddastrand, Blaues Wasser, Orange Beach or the old ship’s registration office with a fresh, homemade lemonade.
In autumn: Enjoy the view and the last rays of sun on the Lohrberg.
In winter: Share a plate of Bomboloni at No. 16 and sip wine from a glass filled to the brim. Visit the Tigerpalast and visit a small concert at the Brotfabrik.
